As technological innovation accelerates and sustainability goals reshape infrastructure, the fire protection community faces unprecedented challenges. This presentation delves into cutting-edge fire protection strategies tailored to emerging hazards, focusing on practical solutions for Fire Sprinkler Contractors and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs). Leveraging insights from recent hazard assessments and performance-based evaluations, we will explore advanced methodologies that address evolving risks while meeting regulatory and operational demands.

Key topics include:

  1. Parking Garages
  2. Electric Vehicle Bus Storage & Maintenance Buildings: Fire Risk & Protection Strategies
  3. Fire Suppression Basis of Design for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
  4. Freeze Protection in Challenging Climates: Engineering for Reliability

Attendees will gain:

  • An in-depth understanding of emerging fire protection challenges in EV bus infrastructure and BESS.
  • Practical knowledge of evolving sprinkler design criteria and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Insights into advanced freeze protection solutions for marginal climates.
  • Strategies for aligning fire protection design with modern codes, standards, and performance expectations.
By attending, participants will be better equipped to address today’s fire protection challenges with innovation, technical rigor, and real-world relevance.”

Summit Fire Consulting

David Stacy is the Engineering Manager at Summit Fire Consulting, where he leads technical development and project execution for complex fire protection challenges across diverse industries. Prior to joining Summit Fire Consulting, David was the Founder and Principal of Performance Based Fire Protection Engineering (PBFPE), a consulting firm renowned for its expertise in computational modeling, performance-based design, and alternative compliance strategies. In 2025, Summit Fire Consulting acquired PBFPE, bringing David’s specialized practice into its national consulting platform to strengthen capabilities in advanced analysis and performance-based fire protection engineering.

David’s professional expertise centers on the application of computational fire and egress modeling, smoke control rational analyses, and performance-based design approaches to solve complex fire protection problems. His work often involves the development of alternative means & methods (AM&M) solutions, enabling clients to achieve compliance where prescriptive codes fall short or are not applicable. With a deep understanding of fire dynamics and regulatory frameworks, David bridges the gap between technical analysis and practical implementation, providing customized fire protection strategies tailored to each project’s unique needs.

A recognized thought leader in the fire protection engineering community, David has presented at national conferences hosted by the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). His presentations have covered advancements in fire modeling, smoke control, and performance-based design methodologies, reflecting his commitment to continuous learning and driving innovation within the field.
