Sanford, Fla., June 21, 2017 – The Building Officials Association of Florida have asked Governor Rick Scott to veto House Bill 1021.

Building Officials, building inspectors, plans examiners, and building code compliance professionals across the state of Florida have asked Governor Scott to veto a bill that would drastically change the way the Florida Building Code is developed and maintained. Calling for industry workgroups to come together for the 2018 legislative session, the Building Officials Association of Florida believes that bringing all stakeholders to the table will ensure the integrity of Florida’s building code that was implemented post-Hurricane Andrew. “We believe there is ample time for the stakeholders to come together and work this out during the 2018 legislative session, rather than starting down a path that may lead to detrimental effects for the citizens of Florida,” said Building Officials President Doug Wise.
